What is the Buddy Program?

Buddies Genuflecting The 7th and 8th graders have very special friends at St. Dominic School. Through a unique mentoring program, 7th graders are paired with Kindergartners and 8th grade students have 1st grade buddies. Middle school students and their buddies get together for special projects; they act as mass partners and role models in church to teach them more about their Catholic faith. It is wonderful to see a middle school student helping a young student find a song in their missalette, showing them how to genuflect before entering their pew and teaching them the proper way to behave in church.

What do the 7th and 8th grade students get from this?

They have an opportunity to become role models, to be a teacher to a younger student while still allowing them to be kids themselves.

Principal Peggy Henseler says "Where else but in a small K-8 setting would you find middle school age children willing to stand proudly with the whole school to recite the school creed, stop on the way outside to tie a first grade partner's shoes, or make Christmas soldiers out of construction paper with that first grade partner?"

The St. Dominic School buddy program is a winner!
