What Makes a School Exemplary?

Mrs. HenselerFollowing are some opening remarks by Principal Peggy Henseler at St. Dominic School's orientation:

What makes a school exemplary? What creates school success? What sets schools apart, puts them on top?

Thinking about those questions – there are many answers….

An excellent staff – I believe without a doubt that our staff is outstanding,

Up-to-date curriculum resources – our curriculum review and updating process keeps us current and fresh, our technology and use of technology is second to none,

A strong moral and faith commitment – Catholic education doesn’t just educate individuals, it prepares students for life.

With all those things in place, I believe that the real key component that is often overlooked when we talk about exemplary schools is the relationship that exists between the parents and the school.

A relationship of mutual support between parents and teachers (school staff) is a major component (if not the most important component) to school/student success. And, that’s where I believe we are truly blessed. I have always felt strong support from each and every one of you when I call with requests, good news, and concerns. Our teachers/staff have also enjoyed that support.

Children who witness their teachers supporting their parents and their parents supporting their teachers have the best opportunity for success in school. In all that we do, know that every decision we make, is made with the best interest of OUR children in mind. If you have any questions, always call; if you have concerns, always let the teacher/staff member you have the concern with know. Keeping the lines of communication open helps to assure the success of all of our students.
