Girl ScoutsYou are here: Extracurricular Activities > Scouting > Girl ScoutsThe Girl Scout Program at St. Dominic School is growing strong. We are part of the Manitou Girl Scout Council. From the Daisy kindergaten class through the Cadette troop in the 7th grade, St. Dominic School serves nearly 50 girls. The Girls are divided into troops based on age and grade. There are several girls from other schools who have joined troops at St. Dominics. We have Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes Scouts. Each troop meets several times a month, usually in the PAC to work on Try-it or badge requirements. Fieldtrips taken to complete badge work. Each Girl Scout is required to pay a National Membership fee ($7.00) each year. Each troop also determines a yearly troop fee. Uniforms are optional, but each Girl needs a vest or sash for her to display her pins, badges and patches. These are worn to school on meeting days. Each troop plans an event each year for the other troops at St. Dominic. As an example , each year the Daisys, 3rd grade Brownies and the 6th grade Juniors plan an exciting Awards and Bridging Cermony. All of the Scouts and their families are invited. This year it will be a Potluck Supper. The 1st grade plans and organizes a wonderful Service Project every December. This Project involves all the Girl Scout families donating Christmas cookies which are made into over 125 plates of cookies. These are donated to the St. Dominic Food pantry. The Scouts participate in the Scout Sunday and bring in food donations for the Pantry also. This is organized by the 2nd graders. The 3rd and 4th grade plan and orgainize the Thinking Day and the Girl Scouts Birthday party for all the Girls Scouts. We have gone roller skating, to the Waelderhaus and even had our own Sock Hop! These events teach the girls about the history and traditons of Girls Scouts here at St. Dominics as well as Girl Scouts Around the World. The Cadettes plan various events with the younger Scouts in the school such as overnight camping trips and earning Try-its and badges. The annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale is also held January-March each year which provides the girls with skills in money management and leadership. The money raised selling cookies helps each troop with their activities through out the year. Girl Scouts is always changing and growing to meet the growing and changing needs of the girls it serves. The troops at St. Dominic will register for the first time this year at an All School Registration which will be held in the back of church the same night as the Parent Orientation Night. All of the Girl Scout Leaders, Co-leaders and "Cookie Moms" are volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with your daughter's troop, please contact the troop leader.
